Do you have a lot of trim work inside your home and feel like it needs a fresh coat of paint? No matter whether your trim is just old and needs some touch up or you decided to make some color and design changes, there are a few things you should know before getting started with your trim paint project.
Trim Paint Project Tips
Before you start painting your trim, make sure you have all supplies together. Experts recommend getting caulk, a sanding block, painters tape, a sponge, primer and interior paint. Benjamin Moore has primers and paint perfect for trim jobs: Benjamin Moore® Fresh Start® primer and Benjamin Moore ADVANCE interior paint. The best brushes for trim jobs are a 1½- and 2½-inch angle sash brushes. If you are not sure what to get, talk to the painting experts at Texas Paint.
Next, take a close look at your trim and baseboards to determine whether they need repairs. If you notice any gaps between walls and trim, fill them in with caulk. Sand your trim before starting to paint. To protect your walls, use the tape to protect the wall areas from paint drips and brushes. Apply the primer, and then it is time for the paint. Experts recommend to start on top and work your way down. In other words, paint crown molding first, then your windows and door frames and end your paint job with your baseboard. Do not dip the entire brush into the paint, stop at about 1/3 of the way. Make sure to remove excess paint by tapping the brush on the side of the can. Apply the paint in a smooth stroke.
