KEIM Paint- Color Forever

If you imagine the qualities that would describe the best paint, you may use words like durable, sustainable, and safe. But, what about color selection, weather resistance, and colors that never fade? If it seems too good to be true….we want you to know sometimes dreams do come true. KEIM Paint is an unbelievable paint.

KEIM Paint History

Keim PaintKEIM mineral paints are a Bavarian invention that was created in the 19th century by scientist, Adolf Wilhelm Keim.  He successfully combined water glass (potassium silicate solution) with inorganic color pigment. Keim’s creation produced  a paint that penetrates and chemically reacts with the mineral substrate. Basically, the mineral paint becomes part of the surface where it can never peel or blister. Additional attributes include its unsurpassed weather resistance, durability, and nonfading color.

King Ludwig was the person who helped to influence Adolf Keim’s invention. King Ludwig was famous for his extravagant artistic and architectural projects like Neuschwanstein Castle.  The problem that King Ludwig encountered was that he wanted to have fine Italian lime fresco work in his kingdom but the harsh climate of the Alps would destroy the fresco in a short period of time. King Ludwig needed a paint that was similar in appearance to lime frescos but was more durable. Adolf Keim successfully met these requirements in his KEIM paint which binds the color pigment into the surface.

“KEIM became the leading manufacturer of mineral paints providing only the highest quality, research-based paints with application characteristics prized by painters, and long lasting durability demanded by owner,” ~ Keim (Click HERE For the Website)

Buildings that were painted with KEIM paints in the 19th century are still in great condition such as the “White Eagle” Inn at Stein am Rhein and City Hall, Schwyz in Switzerland which were both decorated in 1891.

Let’s take a closer look at the features and benefits of KEIM Paints:

Petrification Process – The permanent bonds from the KEIM paint will not peel

Benefits:

  • Penetrates masonry and mineral surfaces, does not simply build on surface
  • Chemically bonds with minerals within the surface—can never peel off
  • Bonds are among the strongest found in nature
  • Forms natural appearance, does not create “painted” look
  • Sheeting action diverts water from surface and helps to keep surface cleaner looking
  • Mineral surface dries more quickly after rain

Silicate (Vapor-Permeable) – The KEIM Paint promotes moisture balance.

Benefits:

  • Silicate finishes do not inhibit moisture vapor from diffusing out of walls
  • Walls maintain an ideal moisture balance, both inside and outside
  • Will never blister like latex or acrylic paints
  • Drier wall assemblies are less prone to rot and mold
  • Limits surface condensation
  • Surface dries out much quicker than latex and acrylic painted surfaces
  • Weatherproof finish provides optimal protection against water intrusion and freeze-thaw damage
  • Highly resistant to algae, fungi and mold

Natural Ingredients & Mineral Pigments – The all mineral KEIM paint pigments are UV stable and won’t fade.

Benefits:

  • Colors won’t fade, and are naturally U.V. resistant
  • Mineral matte finish provides natural appearance with no glare or angular sheen
  • Wide range of colors, even deep and very vibrant shades
  • No negative impact on health or the environment
  • Sustainable from manufacturing, application, lifespan and disposal

Noncombustible- KEIM paints are safe and class A fire rated.

Benefits:

  • Safe–Silicate paints are completely incombustible and will not burn
  • Reduces fire damage to the substrate
  • Gives off no toxic fumes
  • ASTM testing confirms that silicate finishes do not ignite by ASTM E 1354
  • NFPA 101 Class A rating under ASTM E 84

Light Refraction – KEIM paint illuminates dark areas.

Benefits:

  • Mineral matte finish will never cause harsh glare, no matter the light source
  • Matte finishes in any color, even black
  • More natural appearance in artificial light
  • Reduces thermal stress from heat absorption of painted surfaces
  • Can reduce surface damage from thermal shock by helping to mitigate expansion and contraction
  • Silicate will not lose adhesion with thermal changes
  • Silicate finishes will not soften when exposed to direct sunlight or ambient heat

Fungus, Algae, or Mold – KEIM paint is cleaner and enables a healthier surface.

Benefits:

  • High pH and fast dry properties resists fungi, algae or mold growth
  • Inorganic, inert raw materials provide no food source for microorganism growth
  • Hygienic and clean surfaces
  • Silicate finishes can improve health of building environment by limiting microorganism growth
  • Micro-pore water repellency sheets water to naturally clean surface
  • Do not develop static charge to attract dirt/dust
  • Easy to clean and maintain
